This collection consists primarily of research files, interview recordings, and transcripts for Daniel Pfaff's books, Joseph Pulitzer II and the Post-Dispatch: A Newspaperman's Life, and No Ordinary Joe: A Life of Joseph Pulitzer III. It includes Pfaff's dissertation and some research materials for other projects.

Pulitzer, Joseph, Jr. or Pulitzer, Joseph, II (21 March 1885–30 March 1955), editor and publisher, was born in New York City, the son of Joseph Pulitzer, founder of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and editor-publisher-owner of the New York World, and Kate Davis. Pulitzer took the reigns of the Post-Dispatch in 1911 and ran it for the next 43 years. Under his oversight, the paper and its staffers acquired 11 Pulitzer Prizes. Daniel Pfaff earned journalism degrees (M.S., Penn State, 1968; Ph.D., University of Minnesota, 1972) before joining the Penn State faculty in 1971.
